Biopharmaceutical companies aim to advance molecules from the laboratory to the clinic quickly, without compromising quality, efficiency, or patient safety. Achieving this requires navigating complex processes, from cell line development and process optimisation to regulatory compliance and risk assessment. Limited access to affordable and predictable scale-up infrastructure has long been a bottleneck for innovators in India.

To address this, the Government of Telangana, through Telangana Life Sciences in collaboration with the DBT and TGIIC, has established 1Bio, India’s first single-use bioprocess design and scale-up facility within Genome Valley, the country’s premier life sciences cluster. 1Bio provides end-to-end process development and pilot-scale validation, enabling start-ups and established companies to accelerate development timelines and reduce capital investment.

The facility features single-use bioreactors up to 500L, advanced upstream and downstream systems, a dedicated analytical suite, and 150,000 sq. ft. of plug-and-play R&D labs, innovation suites, and training labs. Developed with Thermo Fisher Scientific, 1Bio positions Telangana at the forefront of GLP- and GMP-grade biomolecule development for India and the world.

The establishment of this end-to-end scale-up facility gives domestic companies the impetus to compete with global leaders in biologics, such as the USA, South Korea, China, Germany, France, Switzerland and others. By providing world-class process validation and pilot-scale capacity, 1Bio strengthens the pathway from research to real-world products, attracting private investment and creating high-quality jobs.
